HIPAA Security and Privacy

Groupware Technologies, Inc. has written a manual that outlines the steps that a provider should take to incorporate Provide® Enterprise into your overall privacy practices as they relate to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and the maintenance of electronic client records. Specifically, it deals with the issues raised by the Standards for Privacy of Individually Identifiable Health Information, Final Rule dated December 28, 2000 and the subsequent modifications to it dated August 14, 2002. These are often referred to as the Privacy Rule provisions of HIPAA.

The Guide contains examples of documents that, when adapted to your needs, will support your organization in meeting these specific HIPAA requirements as well as guide you to the correct use of Provide® Enterprise.

The Guide also contains an overview example of how Provide® Enterprise can be used to electronically share protected health information between organizations while establishing standards that will protect the integrity and confidentiality of the information and remaining complaint with the Privacy Rule provisions of HIPAA.

Many organizations ask Groupware Technologies, Inc. about Provide® Enterprise’s support for the HIPAA Standards for Electronic Transactions. This rule adopts format and content standards for eight transactions and for code sets to be used in those transactions. Provide® Enterprise fully supports all of the code sets (ICD 9 CM, CPT 4, HCPCS, Dental Procedures and Nomenclature, and NDC) and we have implemented support for some of the Standard Transactions. We have customers using Provide to generate 837 Claims transactions that can be electronically uploaded to your payer and we are currently working on the implementation of support for 270/271 Eligibility transactions.
